This presentation is a case study of a large information architecture project I ran at Atlassian.
In a nutshell, we overhauled the information architecture of our #1 most visited site, the Forge developer portal.
To do that, we went from a concept-based approach to a user-journey-based approach, resulting in a much more usable, modern IA.
In my presentation, I will take you through all stages of the project, from conception, through user research, to the docs-as-code deployment process.
Overall, this will be a mix of user research, project management, information architecture, and docs-as-code information presented in a case study format.
I belive this will be useful to technical authors at all levels of seniority to show them how they can tackle big projects that deal with large bodies of content and manage them to success, even if they're not PMs by trade or preference.
Takeaways
- Transforming information architecture from topic-based to user-journey-based
- Managing stakeholders and projects as a technical author
- Docs-as-code and its challenges for transformative projects like this one
