The speech will review the state of the art of translation technology and will discuss how the latest advances of Artificial Intelligence will impact the future of translation and more broadly, language professions. The presentation will start with a brief snapshot in time briefly outlining the history of machine translation and translation tools, and commenting how first statistical and then neural machine translation took off. The talk will then proceed to comment on the impact recent deep learning and large language models have on the performance of translation technology and natural language processing.
